A Stance: Alcohol

This is honestly and sincerely not meant to offend, those that know me know that is not my purpose in anything I do, if anything I’m to careful about the feelings of others since I seek to ALWAYS put them first and think of them as better than myself! If I could ask this one thing…Please read all the way through and then make up your mind, it’s very important to me, I feel the need to speak of this b/c it’s been plaguing many a friend and those that are God fearing people who are just making a couple bad choices, I’m hoping to bring you back to God where you can repent and be made holy again! Just as I would want a Christian sister or brother to do to me if I was suffering from this powerful addiction!

Important message: “I meant that you are not to associate with anyone who claims to be a believer yet indulges in sexual sin or is greedy, or worships idols, or is abusive, or is a drunkard, or cheats people. Don’t even eat with such people.” ~ 1 Corinthians 5:11 (Wow how strong and straight forward is that?)

I have long ago made a stance against alcohol…no alcohol itself is not a sin, but man uses it for sin. “Is it sinful to drink wine? The answer to this question is that the wine itself is not sinful, because sin is in the heart of man and does not exist in any object of itself. It is the drunkenness and intoxication that comes about when a man drinks too much that causes him to sin. The Bible teaches discipline and moderation; even eating too much food is a sin and is called the sin of gluttony in the Bible.” Betty Miller says this in God’s Wisdom for Daily Living

I chose not to drink b/c 1) I really don’t see a point, even if I just have one then why don’t I just order a coke, why do i have to consume anything with alcohol? 2) I NEVER want to be out of my own mind b/c that’s when Satan enters the scene 3) I don’t ever want anyone who knows me to see me consuming alcohol, it’s an important stance and I don’t want to falter!

Prayer for the Day

Dear Heavenly Father,Thank you for the liberty we have in Christ. Help us not to judge one another in regard to the issue of drinking a little wine, but rather to be honest before You as to the issue in our own hearts in this regard. May we be a good witness before those in the world. When we make our choices in this life, may they be pleasing to You and show love to those around us. You told us the highest law is the law of love. We are first to love You, and then, to love one another. May we do this in word and deed. Keep us from temptation and sin and let our actions prove to the world that we are true Christians. Deliver those who are addicted to alcohol and who are in this snare of the devil. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. (This prayer was taken from God’s Wisdom for Daily Living by Betty Miller)

Result of Drinking (to much) Alcohol

“Who has anguish? Who has sorrow? Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining? Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new drinks. Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. You will see hallucinations, and you will say crazy things, you will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea, clinging to a swaying mast. And you will say, “They hit me, but I didn’t feel it. I didn’t even know it when they beat me up. When will I wake up so I can look for another drink?” ~ Proverbs 23:29-35

Isaiah 5:22~ “What sorrow for those who are heroes at drinking wine and boast about all the alcohol they can hold.”

Ephesians 5:18~ “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

Habakkuk 2:15~ “What sorrow awaits you who make your neighbor drunk! You force your cup on them so you can gloat over their shameful nakedness. But soon it will be your turn to be disgraced. Come, drink and be exposed! Drink from the cup of the Lord’s judgment, and all your glory will be turned to shame.” (So please do not cause other’s to stumble in other words, instead lift them up and away from the exposure and keep them safe and humility free)

1 Corinthians 6:9-10~ “Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those in indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people-none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.” (Scary thought and I am guilty on numerous of these charges but the free gift of salvation and thanks to God’s saving grace my slate has been wiped clean each and every time I repent…it’s that easy, if you just have faith in Jesus Christ as your savour who paid the wages and debt of sin)
Proverbs 20:1(KJV):”Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-10:9 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.”

Ephesians 5:18-20:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;”

I am not judging a single one of you that does drink, I care for the well being of all of you that I want this message out there hoping that it may deter you from returning to your old ways…think of this…look how much I care for you on this subject and want whats best…how much more do you think God cares for you who actually created you and formed you in the deepest secret of the womb? I’m not here to be self-righteous b/c I have struggles of my own and I thank God this is not one of them but this is a real struggle for some and I want you to know, I am praying for you
